An established presence in the Denver, Colorado investment community, Robert “Bo” Parfet heads Denali Venture Philanthropy and pursues strategies that respect the environment and the people who inhabit our planet. In July 2020 Robert “Bo” Parfet took a vital step in reinforcing this commitment, accepting appointment to the nonprofit Adventure Scientists’ advisory board.
Established in 2011, Adventure Scientists encompasses thousands of explorers worldwide and puts data collected by the outdoor adventure community to use in solving major health and environmental challenges. Scientific samples are often sourced from the globe’s more remote locations, from deep in the oceans to the highest mountain peaks. One recent project involving volunteer cyclists in Montana involved collecting roadkill data, with an aim of better preserving wildlife habitats encroached by roadways. As Mr. Parfet describes it, joining the Adventure Scientists board is an “honor and privilege,” as it allows him to directly participate in and inform efforts to foster a healthier relationship between humans and the life-sustaining environment. It also fits with his lifelong commitment to combining outdoor pursuits with meaningful work. As an Explorers Club member, he worked to develop the Seven Summits Awards, which offers student grants to those considering pursuing health care research. He also tied the Explorers Club to a new Kellogg School of Management program at Northwestern University that invited explorers on campus to present on experiences and findings.
