Robert "Bo" Parfet lives in Boulder, Colorado, approximately 40 minutes northwest of Denver. He works as the managing director of DLP Capital Partners. Robert "Bo" Parfet is interested in sustainability in fashion and how it can impact the environment and social norms.
The fashion industry produces approximately 10 percent of total global emissions, which makes it one of the most harmful industries for the environment. “Fast fashion” refers to clothing that goes quickly from design to consumer, and then into a landfill due to changing styles. Fast fashion has been the standard for a long time. There must be a change that adds sustainability practices and social changes to the industry. Inhumane labor practices have a history in fashion manufacturing. In third-world countries, the fashion industry pays little and has extreme work conditions and poor safety measures. Because brands are starting to understand that social impact and environmental impact are major issues with consumers, brands are beginning to move away from these labor practices. Many companies are switching to recycled and sustainable materials, and the future of fashion will be much more socially and environmentally conscious. An established presence in the Denver, Colorado investment community, Robert “Bo” Parfet heads Denali Venture Philanthropy and pursues strategies that respect the environment and the people who inhabit our planet. In July 2020 Robert “Bo” Parfet took a vital step in reinforcing this commitment, accepting appointment to the nonprofit Adventure Scientists’ advisory board.
Established in 2011, Adventure Scientists encompasses thousands of explorers worldwide and puts data collected by the outdoor adventure community to use in solving major health and environmental challenges. Scientific samples are often sourced from the globe’s more remote locations, from deep in the oceans to the highest mountain peaks. One recent project involving volunteer cyclists in Montana involved collecting roadkill data, with an aim of better preserving wildlife habitats encroached by roadways. As Mr. Parfet describes it, joining the Adventure Scientists board is an “honor and privilege,” as it allows him to directly participate in and inform efforts to foster a healthier relationship between humans and the life-sustaining environment. It also fits with his lifelong commitment to combining outdoor pursuits with meaningful work. As an Explorers Club member, he worked to develop the Seven Summits Awards, which offers student grants to those considering pursuing health care research. He also tied the Explorers Club to a new Kellogg School of Management program at Northwestern University that invited explorers on campus to present on experiences and findings.

After exploring the Seven Summits, Robert "Bo" Parfet founded Denali Venture Philanthropy in Boulder, northwest of Denver, Colorado, to empower entrepreneurs seeking to advance high-impact social change. He was also credited with establishing the Seven Summit Awards Program to enhance healthcare research around the globe. Having exceeded 4,000 hours of volunteer service, Robert "Bo" Parfet attained the Gold level of the Presidential Service Award.
The United States President issues the Presidential Service Award via Points of Light Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Among other requirements, the coveted award is given to any individual, family, or group who has performed a 4,000 hour or more volunteer service, which is recognized by a certifying organization. The award includes a formal presidential service award pin, a personalized testimonial of achievement, and a president-signed congratulatory message given only to United States citizens and lawfully-registered permanent residents. There is no need to belong to a specific group to earn the award. Still, records of the rendered service may be kept by the certifying group authorized to administer the honors to its verified volunteers. The award is to encourage every American to contribute massively to the development of their societies. |
